Als gebürtige New Yorkerin ist Onita Boone in ihrer Heimatstadt als vorzügliche Sängerin und Darstellerin weithin bekannt.
Sie hat sowohl bei zahlreichen Studio Produktionen als auch Live-Auftritten mitgewirkt und dabei mit namhaften Künstlern wie Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston oder auch Patti LaBelle gearbeitet. Seit Ihrem Ortswechsel nach Deutschland ist sie auch hierzulande fester Bestandteil der musikalischen Szene, was Auftritte und Produktionen mit Künstlern wie Nils Landgren, Randy Brecker und der WDR Big Band, Udo Jürgens u.v.a. unter Beweis stellen. Im Jahre 2003 und 2005 konnte sie ihr eigenes Programm mit Sinfonieorchester und Jazz Trio zusammenstellen und mehrfach mit den Bochumer Symphonikern unter Leitung von GMD Steven Sloane aufführen. Deutlich zu hören ist hier ihre Affinität zu den großen, amerikanischen Jazzsängerinnen wie Ella Fitzgerald und Patti Austin.
